VDAC inhibitor SC18 is a specific small molecule targeting the NADH-binding pocket of VDAC1, decreases mitochondrial membrane potential ΔΨm in HepG2 cells (EC50=25 uM).
SC18 inhibited mitochondrial metabolism and ATP production, reduced mitochondrial uptake of pyruvate and glutamine, utilization of tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates, as well as lipid, DNA and amino acid synthesis.
SC18 modulated mitochondrial metabolism in cancer cells, inhibit cell proliferation and induce cell death.
