Kifunensine (FR-900494) is a potent inhibitor of glycoprotein processing mannosidase I (alpha-mannosidase I) with IC50 of 20-50 nM, inactive toward the plant mannosidase II, kifunensine also inhibits the Golgi mannosidase I in rat liver microsomes.
Kifunensine inhibits glycoprotein processing and the function of the modified LDL receptor in endothelial cells.
Kifunensine prevents α-mannosidases I from trimming mannose residues on glycoproteins.
Kifunensine is a glycosylation inhibitor, inhibits N-linked glycosylation.
