Butaselen (BS1801) is a small molecule inhibitor of Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) with anti-tumor activity, inhibits the growth of various human cancer cell lines.
Butaselen protects mice from developing hepatocellular carcinoma, halts progression of hepatocarcinoma in mice models.
Butaselen induces G2/M arrest and apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by inhibiting TrxR activity.
Butaselen inhibits the proliferation of HCC cell lines Bel7402, HepG2 and Huh7 in a dose- and time-dependent manner (IC50=8-20 uM).
Butaselen promotes NK and T cell activity and infiltration in the tumor microenvironment in HCC-bearing mice by enhancing the expression of CXCR3, NKG2D, and their respective ligands.
