Amiodarone is a class III antiarrhythmic agent that inhibits voltage- and ligand-gated potassium channel currents (IK, IK,Na, IK,ACh), also causes a down-regulation of Kv1.5 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) in rat hearts, inhibits outward ionic current (IhERG) tails with IC50 of 45 nM, also induces cell proliferation and myofibroblast differentiation.
